How to write a design brief

Last updated: May 25, 2026

Input fields and writing tips for design briefs that help AI generate HTML aligned with your intent.

What to include in a brief

Generation quality depends heavily on brief specificity. Clearly state the service name, value proposition, target users, and tone (e.g. trustworthy, friendly, innovative) to stabilize layout and copy direction.

Include reference sites, color preferences, and expressions to avoid. DesignLayer treats references as inspiration — it does not generate copies of existing designs.

Effective input examples

“B2B SaaS landing page. Target: SMB owners. Blue-based palette, emphasis on trust and simplicity. CTA: free trial signup.”

“Local café introduction site. Warm photography, calm beige tones. Highlight menu and access information.”

Common mistakes

Too little information tends to produce generic layouts. Contradictory instructions (e.g. minimal yet maximize information density) make results inconsistent.

When referencing materials that may involve copyright or trademarks, verify rights on your own responsibility.
